5th Annual Bear Jamboree Weekend
The Point Resort
918 Charlotteville Rd., #2, Vittoria, Ontario, Canada (Map)

The bears are going camping in the woods??? Somebody better warn the real bears!

The Point Resort has made a name for itself as being a place where people can enjoy some fun in the sun and the bears are welcomed to take over this campground every August for a weekend of “Beardom Extraordinaire!” This weekend takes a little planning, but is well worth the effort, so dig out that camping gear and join the fun.

Aug 13th General Monthly Meeting 8:00pm
Diamond Jim’s Saloon
19650 Warren Ave, Detroit, MI (Map)

Our general meetings are discussions of past and upcoming activities mixed with club business and socializing. If you want to know if we're the club for you, come check us out. Guests and visitors are always welcome. Generally speaking, Diamond Jim's Saloon is located on Warren Ave., one short block east of Evergreen in Detroit. It's right by the Comerica Bank, and you can use their parking lot.

Dinner & A Movie at the Drive-In 7:00pm
Pontiac Silverdome
1200 Featherstone Road, Pontiac, MI (Map)
$8.00 per person

What happens when you combine a tailgate buffet party, hosted by the bears, along with a movie double feature? Give up??? Well, you'll just have to come over to the parking lot around the Pontiac Silverdome and find out for yourself! Bring a date along and let “Dinner and a Movie” get you way past first base. The movie starts at dusk, with your choice of three double features, but between 7 p.m. and dusk the Motor City Bears are putting on a tailgate party like only they can.

The bears will be grilling up burgers and dogs for the tailgate party, and we encourage everyone to bring their favorite beverage as well as a dish to pass based on the first letter of your last name. Your cooperation will help assure that we don’t have too many of one item and not enough of another.

A-F: Picnic side dish
G-M: Salads, cheese, deviled eggs, dip trays etc.
N-R: Desserts
S-Z: Snacks, finger foods etc.

Special Notes:

  1. You might want to bring a blanket with you. It gets chilly there in the late evening, so a blanket (and maybe someone to snuggle with) will keep all your 2,000 parts warm and toasty.
  2. Bringing in glass beverage containers of any kind are prohibited.
  3. The open consumption of alcoholic beverages as well as visible intoxication are prohibited. Use discretion or leave it at home for the night.

Highland Fling 10:00am - 7:00pm
Michigan Renaissance Festival
12500 Dixie Highway, Holly, MI (Map)
$16.95 per person (Discounted tickets available at Kroger's and other places)

This is one annual event to participate in as well as watch. During this weekend, festival goers are encouraged to kick up their heels with Traditional Scottish Music and Dance. But the highlights of the weekend include the annual Highland Games Competition. Imagine an entire group of beefy men (in traditional kilts) throwing telephone poles (cabers) around for sport.....

WHEW! There's so much eye candy here one could become faint and collapse into the arms of any competitor. Once revived, one could ask about what they're really wearing under that kilt....
