Bears and bear culture are getting more and more
mainstream every day! Join the Motor City Bears as we attend a movie
about bears featuring a cast of several bears. You can’t get any
“woofier” than that, now can you?
Bear Cub is a warm, funny, sexy and intelligent story of a bearish
gay man raising his sister’s son. It’s one of the first
feature-length narratives to feature “bears” and their community,
many of them quite “woofy.” Meet Pedro, a handsome gay dentist who
is unabashedly and fondly known as a “bear.” When his free-spirited
sister decides to take a vacation in India with her shady boyfriend,
she leaves her 9-year old son, Bernardo, in his care. Pedro modifies
his behavior by hiding all his porn, scolding his friends for
rolling joints in the house, and abstains from his usual steamy,
sexual hook-ups. But we soon learn Bernardo is quite mature for his
age and loves his uncle unconditionally.
We’re encouraging all of our members to meet outside the
theatre around 9 pm wearing their best Motor City Bears emblazoned
attire, so we can make an entrance as a group, assuring a visible
bear presence to other movie patrons and making a supportive
statement about positive, bear friendly cinema.

Come join the bears doing one of the
things we do best… eating! The Taiwan Buffet has received a big
“thumbs up” from both the Detroit News and various members of our
group. The restaurant offers a huge array of everything from dim sum
items like buns and dumplings to salad bar offerings, and such
Chinese dishes as chicken in spicy sauce, squid with salt and
spices, beef with broccoli and on one visit at least, a pan of
bright red steamed crawfish. There's also a Mongolian grill where
chefs sear combinations of meat, seafood and vegetables from a
buffet of raw ingredients. They also serve alcohol to enhance your
dining experience.
