Our general meetings are discussions of past and upcoming activities
mixed with club business and socializing. If you want to know if we're
the club for you, come check us out. Guests and visitors are always
welcome. Generally speaking, Diamond Jim's Saloon is located on Warren
Ave., one short block east of Evergreen in Detroit. It's right by the
Comerica Bank, and you can use their parking lot.

"Hole Lot of Fur!" Bar Night 9:00pm - 2:00am
Diamond Jim’s Saloon 19650 Warren Ave, Detroit, MI (Map)
Cover charge: $2.00
This evening kicks off another
Motor City Bears bar night at Diamond Jim's. We’re going to show all the
locals and the out-of-town guests just how the Bears have fun with fur
in the Motor City!
Come join us as we sniff, paw, nuzzle, and claw our
way through the bar as we search for a "Hole Lot of Fur!" It's gonna be
a night-long search, but by the time the evening is over, we will be
handing out the title of Mr. Motor City Bear 2005 to some lucky
furry bear. The winner will receive a prize for winning as well as a
free annual membership (or a one year membership extension).
Also, if you’re feeling lucky, then be sure to get
your winning tickets during the 50/50 raffle AND be ready to claim your
winning ticket for the numerous door prizes.
Just so everyone can keep up their strength, the
Motor City Bears will be providing snacks and finger foods all evening
to keep your energy up as you paw, scratch, and claw your way through
all that fur!!!
Jim will have a whole menu of different "shooter
specials" to whet your whistle. Just pawin’ at all that fur will be
enough to work up a terrible thirst, and Jim will be prepared to handle
all the parched Cowboys and Bears in the bar.
Dinner & A Movie at the Drive-In 7:00pm Pontiac Silverdome
1200 Featherstone Road, Pontiac, MI (Map) $8.00 per person
What happens when you combine a tailgate
buffet party, hosted by the bears, along with a movie double feature?
Give up??? Well, you'll just have to come over to the parking lot around
the Pontiac Silverdome and find out for yourself!
Bring a date along and let “Dinner and a Movie” get you way past
first base. The movie starts at dusk, with your choice of three
double features, but between 7 p.m. and dusk the Motor City Bears
are putting on a tailgate party like only they can.
The bears will be serving up Swedish meatballs and sloppy joes for the tailgate
party, and we encourage everyone to bring their favorite beverage as
well as a dish to pass based on the first letter of your last name.
Your cooperation will
help assure that we don’t have too many of one item and not enough of
another.
A-F:
Picnic side dish G-M: Salads, cheese,
deviled eggs, dip trays etc. N-R: Desserts S-Z: Snacks, finger foods
etc.
Special Notes:
You will want to bring a blanket with you. It gets chilly there
in the late evening, so a blanket (and maybe someone to snuggle
with) will keep all your 2,000 parts warm and toasty.
We'll be meeting at Screen #3 (on the right, look for the Sparky
banner) before the showing. Purchase tickets for whichever
screen you want. After the tailgate party, we'll all go to our
selected movies.
Bringing in glass beverage containers of any kind are
prohibited.
The open consumption of alcoholic beverages as well as visible
intoxication are prohibited. Use discretion or leave it at home for
the night.

Annual AIDS Walk - Detroit 10:00am - noon Corner of Lafayette & Fourth Streets, Royal Oak, MI (Map)
The
AIDS Walk-Detroit
is a five kilometer fundraising walk-a-thon in Downtown Royal Oak
which is organized by Steppin' Out and benefits a host of local AIDS
charities.
If you would like to walk with the Motor City Bears or donate,
then you should register A.S.A.P. It's easy, you can visit the
website
www.aidswalkdetroit.org or call (248) 399-WALK. This year the
Motor City Bears group number is 396. This is a great time for a
great cause. It's also lots of fun and a great way to join us in
representing the Motor City Bears to the entire community.
If you can't walk, please consider sponsoring one of our walkers
with a donation and join us for lunch after the walk. (Details on
lunch location to follow.)
So, if you're looking for a street corner to meet at, and a
street to walk down, then make sure to put the corner of Lafayette &
Fourth Streets on your calendar for Sunday, September 18th.
1.) MARKET PART noon - 3:00pm Eastern Market Market Street, Detroit, MI (Map)
2.)
FEAST PART 3:00pm - ??? Brian P. & Kevin K.’s Sterling Heights, MI
This event is a little different from things we've done in the
past. First off, we're going to invade the Eastern Market that day
and snatch up all the fresh goodness the market has to offer. In
addition to the fresh meats, produce and vegetables which will be in
abundant supply, we're gonna browse the shops and stores which
surround the Eastern Market itself and select a delectable sample of
gourmet foodstuffs from around the country... and the world.
THEN... With our arms loaded and our stomachs running on empty, we're
heading over to Brian and Kevin's to prepare our favorite fresh
delicacies. Once all the preparations have been made, the bears are
gonna do one of the things they do best... put a big dent in a big
buffet! Once the gastronomic carnage has ended, we'll settle back
for an evening of light entertainment... maybe a movie, or maybe
just some great conversation with some great people.
Rumor has it that Brian and Kevin will again open the basement
for those adventurous souls who wish to venture down there. Although
rumors are still floating around that there's still victims down
there from last Halloween! EEEEK!!! Maybe we should ALL be scared!
Dinner Out with the Bears 7:00pm Golden Corral Restaurant 37101 Warren Rd., Westland, MI (Map) Cost: Approx $10 per person
The reputation of this place is
legend, and various Motor City Bears have put it to the test in the
past. Needless to say, it passed with flying colors. Even the
Detroit News has something to say about this place:
http://www.detnews.com/2003/business/0310/10/d02-294096.htm
Anyway, in a rare mid-weeknight event, the Motor City Bears are
gonna barge in there and try to empty out the buffet. It might be
interesting to see if they succeed... OR will the bears end up just
getting stuffed??? Go and see for yourself!
