This year we are doing something a little different and have challenged the local Lambda Car Club to a night of bowling.  They have accepted so it is the Bears vs. the Lambda Car Club.  So getting these two clubs together for a fun night of bowling will be a great time and will double the amount of bowlers we normally have.

We have also sent this invite to all Michigan bear clubs so as in past years we have challenged the other bear clubs, we are now all coming together and forming one big team.

The cost is $13.00 and includes:

  • 3 games of bowling

  • Rental shoes

  • Pizza

  • Pop

We will play a 9 pin no tap game, a normal game and the third game (Crazy bowling) will require that a few other instructions be followed. If you have been there in past years you know what I mean. If not I assure you that you will have fun and if you are not a skilled bowler, this third game will help you beat even the best bowlers ;>)

Due to the large number of possible bowler’s payment is required in advance.  The dead line for received payments is February 10th.  You can pay by cash, send in your payment or pay with PayPal.  (Cash or Check preferred)  Click here for mailing address or for PayPal click the button below.   Email for Questions.    Hope to see you there!

For our February dinner Jim E has picked Richter's Chalet in Dearborn.

Dearborn, MI 48124-1833   Toll Free: (866) 574-4291   info@richterschalet.com

A place well known to the Dearborn area for many years.  The prices are very reasonable if not down right cheap. Thursday specials include a breaded pork chop dinner for $6.95 and Beef Stroganoff for $7.85.  The full menu can be found on their website (Link below)

Weekends are busy so Jim has picked a Thursday.  So mark your calendars for a great dinner with the bears.  We do have to limit seating to 30 people so sign up soon!  Please post in the member only Yahoo group or email EC above if you are coming.

I found a few reviews Great German Old Fashioned food. Be prepared for a huge meal “,  "Great German food and fabulous desserts made by Roland Richter, an Award winning pastry chef! German ambiance, music, and very reasonably priced. Offer selection of imported German beer and wines. In business for over 30 years by Richter family." "Wonderful German foods, and the best homemade desserts in town! Family owned!"  "The Rindsroulade is excellent. The desserts melt in your mouth! My wife & I always order the Schwarzwaelderkirsch torte (Black Forest cherry torte) and hazelnut mousse. If you like German food, you'll like Richter's Chalet."

So come on out and chow down with the bears.  Richter's Chalet is on Michigan just east of Telegraph (north side of the road)

Bootblacking Demonstration  - 5pm (EC - Matt W)
at Sir Dennis, Sir Brad and Jester Tyler’s

This looks interesting and probably everyone could learn a tip or two from this demo.  Come on out.  Details from Matt:    i would like to announce an upcoming event for the bears.   yes, it was intentional to have this right before the Carb Fest.  It is going to be a demo/discussion of care of leather boots and bootblacking

A Bootblack is a person whose interest in taking care of boots wither it be a fetish, part of service, or a trade.  Bootblacks are different the Shoeshine Boys in that we specifically deal with Leather Boots typically worn by Leathermen (and Bears as well).

During this demo, i will discuss the two different types of Leather boots and the care for each.  i will also discuss some other aspects of my bootblacking including experiences in public vs. private bootblacking, compatiotion,  and my upcoming trip to Chicago to compete at IML’s Bootblacking compation.

The event is FREE, however if you want to bring a pair of boots as part of the demo and/or learn how to take care of them, feel free to bring the boots and any supplies you have.   Please feel free to email me to let me know if you’re interested or have any questions.

St. John Lutheran School Fish Fry 5:00 - 8:00pm
16339 Fourteen Mile Road
Fraser, MI 48026 (Map)
(586) 294-8740

St. John Lutheran School puts on a fish fry during Lent. The money raised is used for a trip for the kids. This year the kids will be going to Washington DC. The students will be the wait staff with their dads in the kitchen working the deep fryers. The recipe used for their beer battered fish has been the best kept secret. The Church puts this fish fry on every other week during Lent.

Menu:

Deep Fried Fish or oven baked, french fries, baked red skins potatoes, cole slaw, dessert, coffee, fruit punch.

Cost:

$11.00 for all you can eat, served family style.

Time:

6:30pm - who ever is there will be seated together, any later comers will be seated as tables become available.  When talking with our waiter on the 15th, they serve between 700 and 800 people a night. And they have never run out of fish.

Dennis, Brad, Tyler, Tim and I went on the 15th and the fish was the best you will ever have. So, I thought I would post here to see if we can get anyone to bite! If you have any questions, just shoot me an email and I will be glad to answer them for you.

Chuck
