Monty Python Movie Night

I hear we might have a theme - Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, and Spam.

Hey there Bears, It's movie time at Brad, Dennis, and Tyler's house. And this time we are doing a Monty Python Movie Night. We will be showing The Holy Grail, Meaning of Life, and The Life of Brian. Now since we had a theme from the last movie (remember Willy Wonka and all that sugar..ugh!)

Well this movie night is also going to have a theme. Now, this theme will take on twist, just like Iron Chef. Every dish must have one certain ingredient in it. Yes that's right what ever you plan on bringing must have this ingredient in it...and the special ingredient is.........SPAM!!!!! Yes, that's right that wonderful meat in a can....and in case your wondering why we chose this item?? Well Monty Python has a wonderful sketch about Spam...hmmmmm maybe we can find that to show..anyone got it???

So here is the schedule. 6-7pm Meet and Greet 7pm First movie Holy Grail followed by Meaning of Life and then Life of Brian..and if anyone is still up and around we may show Black Sheep...yes that wonderful movie about mutant sheep. Okay so bring your dish with Spam... If you need an idea on what to bring, check out http://www.spamrecipes.net. We will be supplying a regular dessert plus ice and mixes.

Bring your own hard stuff. Also, nothing harder than cigs to smoke outside on the balcony, please. And we will see you all then...oh yeah and don't forget the Spam!!!! (but I don't like Spam) if you have not seen the sketch then you wont get it.)

Thanks Brad, Dennis, and Tyler

Monthly Dinner with the Bears

Our June dinner is going to be on the West side this time. Jim E came up with this one and it looks like a cool place to check out. So come on out and chow down with the bears at one of the oldest cabins in the area. It is right by the Gotfredson exit for M-14 so it is easy to get to. (NOTE: The Gorfredson Rd bridge is under construction at M-14. West bound traffic should be able to exit and go north to the restaurant. East bound will need to find a different route to get there.)<br />
<br />
Here are a few comments from their website: (American / Seafood / Steak / Burgers) The delicious aroma from the open grille, the warmth from the roaring stone fireplace, and our dedicated staff make this historic cabin a perfect place for friends and family to meet. - Karl Poulos.<br />
<br />
This historic, full service restaurant, established in 1945, once played host to a young singer on a road tour....Johnny Cash. The Lodge which features a banquet room with a beautiful stone fireplace, is available for large crowds for parties, meetings, conferences, and special occasions. <br />
<br />
Please post in the Members only Yahoo group if you are coming. We need a head count for this one. Hope to see you there.

Lansing Pride

Hi Guys OK here are more details for the Lansing Pride Security.

* They have agreed to donate to MCB $100 for each position helping out for the day (10 hours).
* They have also agreed to post a full page ad in their newsletter and one on their website for our pride weekend celebration at no charge.
* The day is 10 hours and will be from 1 PM to 11 PM on Saturday June 28th 2008. We have decided to break this out into two 5 hour shifts. The first one is from 1 PM to 6 PM and the second one is from 6 PM to 11 PM. (one person can work both shifts)
* We will be offering gas cards. A $10 gas card will be given out for EACH shift so if you come up and work all day then you will get $20 in gas cards. Work just one 5 hour shift and get $10.
* The security positions are: One at each bar, one backstage/watching the money, one to escort the treasurer on hourly pick-up rounds, the rest wandering the grounds making sure no trouble breaks outs (basically just being a visible presence)
* The main reason for the change in hours is a special event just announced. They are going to have a big fireworks presentation in the evening.
* There will be food in the backstage area for all the workers.
* You can bring coolers of stuff if you like, but the insurance company and the city won't allow beer or alcohol to be brought in.
* They are also getting security t shirts made so please let us know your t shirt size by May 25th So we have 4 people lined up so far for Lansing.

Thanks to everyone for signing up. I marked everyone down as working both shifts so if you want to work only one shift let us know. Working with the new crew at Michigan Pride has been a joy to work with. They seem to be very on top of things and communications between us has been very good. Although this is different from past years this can be fun as well and we have an opportunity here to being in $1000 into the club. We have room for 12 more half day shifts. So we need 6 to 12 people more to fill these positions. If you are interested in helping out let me know and which/how many shifts you want to work.
Hugs Scott W
Al Matta Club
5121 Oakman Blvd.
Dearborn, MI.

This year we have made this an official event for MCB. If you have not been to this in the past then you are really missing out on something really fun.

This year our own, Ward Lambert is taking part in the Tribe's production of “PIRATES OF GRAB ASS". As always this is filled with wonderful Gay Humor and Innuendo, as well as songs you will probably never forget once you've heard them in this venue! There are 3 bears in the show this year. If you want to find out who they are you will just have to come see for yourself.

Tickets for the show with a Buffet Style Dinner and OPEN BAR are discounted at $42 a ticket directly through MCB until March 12th. After that tickets will be $45.00. You can pay in person at most events, check through snail mail or use the PayPal button below (cash or check preferred.)

They also do a nice pre-show with a parade of colors where all the attending groups come up with the banners. There are quite a few groups that do attend this, some are from quite far away. It would be great to have a good turn out from MCB to show our support. It really is a good deal when you get a full night out with a play for a little over $40.

The big night is April 5th, 2008. Doors and bar open at 6:30 p.m. dinner at 7:30ish show about 9 PM. Bar will become a cash bar when the show starts.

29583 Five Mile Road,

OK, all you hungry bears, time to start filling that belly for the upcoming winter hibernation season. You know, the couch potato months waiting for the next summer to arrive.

This time we will visit a good Chinese buffet called Fortune Buffet in Livonia. It is on Middlebelt Rd. at 5 Mile Rd. Just one mile north of the Middlebelt exit on I-96. It is on the Southwest corner in a L shaped strip-mall.

They also serve beer, wine and liquor. Look for the post in the yahoo groups for sign up information or email.

Comments from Molly Abraham

A pretty amazing array of dishes, from the expected Chinese-American chicken, beef and barbecued ribs to much more esoteric items aimed at an Asian audience, makes this one of the most interesting Chinese buffets around. A sushi chef prepares the rice-wrapped tidbits to order at a small sushi bar, and there is also a chef-staffed Mongolian barbecue where guests may put together their own combinations. Noodle soups and the Vietnamese pho are also prepared to order. The buffet includes nearly 175 different choices, from crispy squid and fresh oysters and clams to steamed flounder, crab with ginger and scallions and seaweed salad, in addition to an array of fresh fruit and American style salad makings. At $10.95 for dinner, it's a steal, and the setting is attractively done up in light oak and pastel colors.

St. John Lutheran School Fish Fry 6:30pm
16339 Fourteen Mile Road
Fraser, MI 48026
(586) 294-8740

St. John Lutheran School puts on a fish fry during Lent. The money raised is used for a trip for the kids. This year the kids will be going to Washington DC. The students will be the wait staff with their dads in the kitchen working the deep fryers. The recipe used for their beer battered fish has been the best kept secret. The Church puts this fish fry on every other week during Lent.

Menu: Deep Fried Fish or oven baked, french fries, baked red skins potatoes, cole slaw, dessert, coffee, fruit punch.

Cost: $11.00 for all you can eat, served family style.

Time: 6:30pm - who ever is there will be seated together, any later comers will be seated as tables become available. When talking with our waiter on the 15th, they serve between 700 and 800 people a night. And they have never run out of fish.

Dennis, Brad, Tyler, Tim and I went on the 15th and the fish was the best you will ever have. So, I thought I would post here to see if we can get anyone to bite! If you have any questions, just shoot me an email and I will be glad to answer them for you.

For our February dinner Jim E has picked Richter's Chalet in Dearborn.

A place well known to the Dearborn area for many years. The prices are very reasonable if not down right cheap. Thursday specials include a breaded pork chop dinner for $6.95 and Beef Stroganoff for $7.85. The full menu can be found on their website.

Weekends are busy so Jim has picked a Thursday. So mark your calendars for a great dinner with the bears. We do have to limit seating to 30 people so sign up soon! Please post in the member only Yahoo group or email EC above if you are coming.

I found a few reviews “Great German Old Fashioned food. Be prepared for a huge meal “, "Great German food and fabulous desserts made by Roland Richter, an Award winning pastry chef! German ambiance, music, and very reasonably priced. Offer selection of imported German beer and wines. In business for over 30 years by Richter family." "Wonderful German foods, and the best homemade desserts in town! Family owned!" "The Rindsroulade is excellent. The desserts melt in your mouth! My wife & I always order the Schwarzwaelderkirsch torte (Black Forest cherry torte) and hazelnut mousse.
So come on out and chow down with the bears. Richter's Chalet is on Michigan just east of Telegraph (north side of the road).

Mr. Motor City Bear Contest

At WALL TO WALL FUR on Saturday, March 8, 2008.

All members of MCB are eligible to enter. Officers are ineligible.

TRIVIA QUESTIONS: STUDY UP ON MCB PHOTOS!

Trivia questions based on the 2007 event photos (and 2008 up to WTWF) on the web site will be asked.

Example question:
Q. At the 2007 Anniversary Party, Tim Taylor did an impersonation of a Cher with something on his head. What was it?

You did not HAVE to attend these events to answer the questions! – they can largely be answered simply from studying the photos.

“COSTUME” CONTEST:

The term “costume” sounds elaborate but it could be as simple as being shirt less, just wearing underwear or swim wear, leather, etc. It can be as simple or as complex as you want. You will have the opportunity to present your costume. Dance, prance, etc. Whatever you want to do to please the crowd – within bar limits that is. . .

BONUS POINTS:

Extra points awarded for volunteers and event EC’s throughout the year. We have a nice yet dusty set of 1972 encyclopedias as a prize for the winner. Just kidding, we do have a chunky prize package for the winner and gifts for all contestants.

OK guys, study up and get ready, this is going to be a blockbuster event!

14th Annual Anniversary Party

What a huge success! Over 72 people attended this annual event at Mama Mia's to celebrate the fun times that only the bears can have. When you mix food, drinks and bears it going to be a great time. Here are some of the highlights from the evening.

Some of the old timers came out of their caves to join in the fun; Rob, Charles, and Ted all made an appearance. These long time members could not turn down a chance to catch up with friends, not to mention the great tasting food that only Mama Mia's can provide.

A great big thank you goes out to Brian and Shane for providing the DJ service. WOW! What a wonderful job they did; no one could have done a better job. Another great big thank you goes out to our wait staff from Mama Mia's. Rumor has it that they fight each other on who will serve our group and we could not have gotten any better service anywhere.

Shortly after dinner, Scott, the new Vice President for the upcoming year, pulled Brian, Dennis, and Chuck and put them in the spot light one more time and he thank each of them for there passed service to the club as officers. Scott, and the incoming officers presented each of them with a plaque to commemorate their dedication to the club.

Another highlight from the fun filled night of activities is that Alan, one of our wait staff, after years of wearing him down, he finally agreed to do a strip tease for us. Unfortunately, because Mama Mia's did not want to loose their liquor license, he was not able to perform for us. Instead he did dance seductively with Chuck. Rumor has it, Chuck got his phone number.

Look for the photos to be up on the website soon and see what you have missed. Make sure that you mark your calendar for next year.

                Hi Guys

This is a reminder it anyone who is doing Curling this weekend. These were emailed to me from the club. Key things here are DRESS WARM & CLEAN SHOES must be used.

Release of Liability - each player will be required to sign the attached release form before going into the ice arena at the club.

Ice Card - curling teams are made up of 3 or 4 players. It helps us to move your group along if you set up your playing teams before your arrival. Two teams play per 1 sheet of ice.

Dress - Loose fitting clothing (Levi's are not recommended), clean tennis shoes (shoes to be worn on the ice should not be the ones you wear into the club). The arena temperature is approximately 32 degrees - hat, gloves, turtlenecks, short jacket are recommended)

Visit The Detroit Curling Club web site at www.detroitcurlingclub.com for club information on curling and web links to additional curling information on the game.

2008 Whole Year Event Planning Meeting

This year let’s try something different and host a planning party to set up most of the events for 2008. Lambda car club has done it this way and it has worked our well for them.<br />
<br />
So let’s plan on a meeting to pencil in the major events for 2008 at Scott and Rob’s house. We will not totally fill up the calendar, we can leave some areas open for adding additional events during the year as well. Plan on it taking 2 to 3 hours to do the whole year. I think this will be fun. It will also allow for everyone to plan better for our events by knowing way in advance what they are doing.

Games Night

We thought it would be fun to have a games night for the group. The main game we were thinking of doing is or Bear, Bear or Bear (or really Win, Lose or Draw). Ok first off Bear, Behr or Bare in not strip Win, Lose or Draw (but I like how you think ;>) ). It is a lot of fun for a group. You have to pick a card. The cards have a word or phrases on them and you have to draw to get people to say what is on the card. Kind of like charades but you use drawing instead of acting it out. Oh and the cards might be a little different from the standard set :>)

We can also set up other games as well if others want to play something else. Have a favorite game, bring it along. I am sure people will also be just hanging out as well. We will also start with an afternoon of socializing and will have a pot luck dinner as well. So come on out and see the bears!

We might also have a late night movie if we get tired of the games?

Starts at 3:00, Dinner about 6:00 and the games start about 7:00.

Dinner will be pot luck as follows: (remember the no chip rule Please) We will also have a bar-b-q grill available if needed and we will be providing some snacks.

A-F: Desserts
G-M: Finger foods, side dishes, Soups etc.
N-R: Salads, cheese, deviled eggs, dip trays etc.
S-Z: Meat dishes, casseroles, main dishes etc.

We will have pop and ice. Feel free to BYOB.* Our house is about 1350 sq. ft. so it may get cozy. The living room, dining room and foyer form a great room so that should help. * Please no smoking in the house. We have a deck and a patio outdoors. You are welcome to smoke out there. *We do have 2 very friendly long hair cats.

Hope to see you there! Scott and Rob

Bar-Mitzvah: October 13

We have a lot of stuff planned for the Bear Mitzvah Next Saturday, October 13th.<br /><br />

One of our members, Scott R, is Jewish and has never had a Bar-Mitzvah so Scott wanted to have some fun with this and have a Bear Mitzvah. This will take place at Diamond Jim's right after our meeting. There will be lots of food and things I guarantee you have never seen at a Bar-Mitzvah.<br /><br />

Come hungry because we are going to have Cocktail Wienies with Pork & Beans, Mac & Cheese, a Vegi Tray, Meatballs and Pork Rinds with hot sauce. Then we have some special Chocolate cups and a very special Cake that you will not find in a store. Well at least not most stores.<br /><br />

We are going to have special prize balloons with well over $100 in prizes, Jell-O shots and a 50/50 drawing.<br />
<br />

The fun starts right after the meeting. Hope to see you there!
NO GIFTS OR CARDS, JUST COME ON OUT AND HAVE FUN!!!

Here is your chance to come on up and see their other life or find out just what do they do up there.
