What is Wallyball?
It is very much like volleyball. But instead of playing outside and
having to chase after the ball when it goes out of bounds, we play
indoors in a racquetball court.
The ball is a bit smaller and softer. Following the ball can be confusing at first. Remember, it can bounce off walls and still be in play! But you'll get used to the angles after a game or two.
How do the Bears play Wallyball?
We welcome players of all skill
levels, including those with no skill level! (We all have to
start somewhere!) Our main goal here is to have fun while
getting a workout. Every effort is made to keep each Wallyball game fun
and entertaining. Taking the game too seriously is discouraged.
There’s always lots of light hearted laughing and joking to accompany
each game.
We pick teams by random. At the end of each game, we mix up the teams to keep things interesting. The losing side gets to serve in the next game. That's how it usually goes, but we're flexible. Come by any Wednesday and check us out. Guests are always welcome.
Where & When & What
We are currently not playing until further notice.
Warren Racquet & Fitness Center
29901 S Civic Center Blvd, Warren, MI (Map)
Civic Center Blvd is the first light north of 12 Mile off of Van Dyke. So it's easy to get to from I-696.
Cost is $6 for one hour and $9 for two hours.
All you need to bring are appropriate clothes and a lock. A locker room is down the left hallway for changing. They have showers and you can simply sign for a towel at the desk. Shoes must be of the "athletic" type and the fitness center asks that you put them on once your arrive. (Water or grit on the soles of shoes worn outside can damage the floor or create a slip hazard on the court.) No hard soles or boots.
Like with any fitness center with a locker room, it's always a good idea to not leave any valuables in the lockers. Locked, secure storage is available near the front desk. Just ask the attendant.
Still Have More Questions?
Bill Krout has been running the Motor City Bears Wallyball. And a speacial thank you to him for his efforts for the past three years of dedication and hard work.
Rules
- Teams can have between 2 and 6 players. Four per side seems to work best. Most of the rules of volleyball apply to wallyball.
- Each side gets three hits to get the ball over the net.
- You can not hit the ball twice in a row.
- A serve that hits the net is "out".
- Teams "rotate" just like you did in gym class.
- First team to 15 wins. You must win by 2.
- it hits the other side's back wall
- it hits two walls (side to side, side and back,...)
- it hits the ceiling
- it does not go past the net before hitting a side wall.
- it hits the ceiling on it's way over the net
- it hits 2 walls on it's way over the net
- it hits the other team's back wall
- If the ball hits the ceiling, two walls, or your own back wall, it is still in play on your side.
Confused? Don't worry. We play for fun and you'll pick it up quick.
